Year 7 Catch-Up Premium 2015/16
The Literacy and Numeracy Catch-Up Premium gives schools additional funding to support year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and / or maths at the end of Key Stage 2 (KS2).
At St Mary's, we use this funding to provide strategies and interventions which are specifically aimed at pupils whose skills in literacy and numeracy are insecure.
Students and catch-up premium
- Year 7 students on roll (2015/16) - 77
- Number of students eligible for catch-up premium -17
- Total amount of Catch-Up Premium (indicative) - £8,500
How we use the catch-up premium
St Mary's Catholic High School uses this funding to employ teachers to deliver the 'Catch Up' Intervention Programme.
We provide structured weekly small group intervention sessions to support the achievement and confidence of learners who find literacy or numeracy difficult. Each intervention begins with diagnostic / formative assessment of each child's specific needs based upon prior and current attainment data, discussions with each child and information from classroom teachers. Intervention sessions are delivered by fully qualified, highly experienced subject specialists.
Progress of pupils in the current cohort:
Literacy: In terms of catch up, further to literacy intervention, only 2 pupils failed to achieve L4 in their summer examination, both achieving 3a. Both pupils, however, reached L4 in their targeted intervention writing assessments.
71% of pupils have made the expected 2 sub-levels of progress throughout the year and 43% made beyond expected progress.
Numeracy: Following the recent completion of maths summer examinations, pupil performance data is being analysed. An impact statement for numeracy will follow shortly.
