During 1993 St Mary's High School Governors decided to hold a ballot of parents to decide its future. The result was a big majority on favour of leaving the control of the Local Authority and becoming a Grant Maintained School. This came into operation in 1994.

The school submitted a bid to the Dept for Education in 1995 and in 1996 became a school with specialist subject status. Leyland St Mary's Catholic Technology College

Visit of Cardinal Hume in 1997
Our first ICT suite and computer network in Room 29 in the early 1990's. This room no longer exists and is now part of the school Main Office.
